Coach Training CPD Clinics.

                        Coach Training CPDs

To keep our coaches developing and learning, Holywell ASC is taking the opportunity to invest in our clubs development. Swim Wales are rolling out Individual Stroke, Drill & Land Progression training on all for strokes, our coaches have already attended a Butterfly CPD clinic and have booked onto the Backstroke clinicwhich will take place in March

What do we get from the clinic?

After attending the clinic’s our coaches can access new online video, App & coaching resources.

  • Elite Athlete demonstrations
  • Technical development advice
  • Drill Progression for each stroke
  • Land progression for each stroke
  • Framework for development
  • Resources for easy use

As our sport becomes more professional, land conditioning is becoming more relevant at the performance and elite levels in the development of stroke efficiency and speed. Hopefully, our members can now see the land based aspect being applied pre and post pool sessions.

With this in mind, Graeme Antrwistle of Swim Wales believes our attention and focus needs to shift towards creating and developing athletes from within clubs who are capable of performing correct ‘Movement Patterns of Strokes’ and have the ability to ‘transition into senior strength & conditioning programmes’.

The aim of the framework is to further the knowledge, and understanding of drills for both coaches and swimmers, look at what and how drills impact most on the improvement of the individual as they go through maturation.

We need to think about the positive impact that land conditioning can add to our swimmer’s performance.

The CPDs have been designed by Swim Wales staff, Graeme Antwhistle – Coach Development Manager / Rhys Shorney – Physiotherapist / Spencer Fuge – Strength & Conditioning and developed with practioners from around Wales including; swim coaches, strength & conditioning coaches and physios as to the practical application and ease of use of the resource within club environments.

Bringing the knowledge back into our club, Gaynor, Nigel, Andrea, Lorna, Ros, Dave Helen and myself will deliver what we learn at these clinics to our development level swimmers, enhancing their ability to progress through to senior athletes and reach their full potential.

“This is a new and exciting initiative that we really hope makes a significant and positive impact on the development of our coaches and our swimmers.
