Swim Wales 2017 Summer Nationals Review

The Swim Wales 2017 Summer Nationals took place at the Welsh National pool in Swansea from the Monday 31st July Sunday the 6th August.

 

 

Day One:-  (Session 1&3)Tom Williams set the week off to a great start, Tom set himself a long course PB in the 100m free and then after a good 200m Backstroke setting a PB in the prelim, Tom set himself another PB in the final coming 7th.

Day Two:- (Session 4,&6) Katie Allen was in action on day 2, Katie swam the 50m Bk setting a PB in the prelim, Katie followed this up with another PB in the final to take the bronze medal. Katie also swam the 200 freestyle narrowly missing her PB time.

Day Three:-  (Session 7&9) Tom swam the 200m freestyle setting himself a long course PB, Shannon Harvey and Katie swam the 100 backstroke, Shannon setting a 3 second long course PB, and Katie taking 2 seconds from her entry time, Katie made the final going in 8th place, after another great swim Katie moved up a place coming 7th in the final, Katie swam the 200m free in the morning swimming just outside her PB time.

Day Four:- (Session 10,11, and 12)  Liv Davies teamed up with Katie in the 100m Freestyle, Katie swam a great race making first reserve and Liv surprised herself by making the final coming 8th but setting a long course PB time along the way. she then swam the 400 IM in the afternoon session coming 10th.

Day Five:-  Session (13,14 &15) Liv made the final of the 200 Bk in 4th place, the final was a great race to watch with Liv dropping 7 seconds to take Silver, narrowly missing out on the Gold by 2/10ths of a second. Liv also swam in the afternoon session swimming in the 400 Freestyle setting a long course PB time for herself.

Day 6:- Liv, Shannon and Katie swam on day 6, Katie started with the 50m Brs, Katie and Liv then swam the 200IM Katie coming 6th in the final taking a further 1.2 seconds off her prelim tim.  The afternoon session was a difficult one for both Liv and Shannon who both competed in the 800m with short course converted entry times, both girls swam their hearts out setting long course PB times.

Day Seven the final day:- Katie Allen and Jean-Luc Lovell-Pascal end the weeks racing. Katie started the day with the 50m freestyle, swimming an impressive 30.8 seconds to get into the final, and what a final, Katie came 8th in a time of 30.39, which when you take into account the seven swimmers from 2nd to 8th all within less than 4/10th of a second made a great final. Jean-Luc Swam in the 200m Brs going in on a short course converted time, Jean-Luc had a great swim winning his heat in impressive fashion taking off over 5 seconds.
