Successful breaststroke clinic

Successful breaststroke clinic

The breaststroke clinic held on Sunday the 9th of April was a huge success, the swimmers started with dry land stretches and Lowri explained to the swimmers how important being flexible is, if our swimmers want to achieve their full potential more work needs to be done on pre-pool stretching.

Lowri then worked on streamline and flotation techniques, keeping the core engaged and stomach pulled in to make the spine as straight as possible.

The swimmers then moved into the pool and worked on skills and drills, flotation position, 360 degree controlled streamline spin, streamline 4 kicks 1 breath.

Lowri gave all the swimmers a sponge drag training aid to keep, these will be used in training by adding additional sponges it creates more drag, Lowri used to use 3 sponges working on 2 kicks one pull and removing a sponge each time until she swam with no sponge and no drag.

Lowri did a section on turns and the importance of being streamline during all phases of the turn, the swimmers did fast turns along the length of the pool and finished off doing turns swimming in from the middle of the pool.

Speaking with Lowri afterwards she said overall she was very impressed with the swimmers, they were quick to pickup what she wanted them to do and executed the skills and drills very well.

All the coaching staff were very impressed with the swimmers, how they presented themselves, well turned out and during the session  they were attentive throughout.

Below are some pictures of the day, keep an eye out for more that will be posted on the website and on the notice bored.

Going forward we will be rolling this breaststroke clinic out to all our swimmers, we will also be looking to bring in some more top swimmers to deliver clinics on front crawl, backstroke and fly and starts/turns.
