Liverpool Splash & Dash 2019 Review

Liverpool Splash & Dash 2019

A small team of 11 swimmers took part in this year’s Splash & Dash and it was a case of quality and not quantity as the team did amazingly well.

The Youngsters did the proud setting PBs in all their races, Emily Jones (11) had 4 races and set 4 new PB times, Sian Kitchen(11) set herself new 2 PBs the 50m Backstroke and Freestyle races, the 2 girls had some tough races with up to 50 swimmers in the 11-year-old girl’s age group. Isla Jones (9) made a great account of herself with some solid swims, she raced in another tough group with over 30 swimmers in her age group, she set herself 4 PBs,  Zac Hewitt(10) was impressive in his swims setting 4 PBs, both Isla and Zac had a huge time drops from their last long course meet in Sheffield Zac taking 8.5 seconds from his previous Fly time and Isla dropping up to 3 seconds from each of her previous Freestyle, Backstroke and Breaststroke times .

The morning session started well with Katie Allen(14) winning 2 Bronze medals in the 50m Backstroke and 50m Breaststroke.  Jean-Luc Lovell-Pascal (13)  placed 5th in the 50m Freestyle with a new PB time going sub 30 seconds for long course, Jean-Luc then won Bronze in the 50m Backstroke setting another PB, Molly Martin(15) followed this up winning a Gold in the Breaststroke almost 3 seconds ahead of 2nd place. Elinor Rich (12) had great swims in her age group setting 2 PBs and coming in 7th in the 50m Backstroke out of a field of over 40 swimmers.  Shannon Harvey(14) and Emilie Cartlidge(13) were solid in their events with Shannon setting 3 PBs and Emilie achieving 4 PBs and a Welsh National time in the process.

SKINS EVENT

At the end of the Morning session, there was a skins event for the fastest eight

14 and over Girls and 14 and over Boys times entered into the 200m Individual Medley. Holywell had Molly and Katie swimming in the event which started with the referee placing his hand into a bag (a blind draw) choosing either FC-BK-BRS-FLY for the first race, after each 50m swim the slowest swimmer is eliminated, that swimmer then draws the next ball etc until one swimmer is left. 1st prize £25 – 2nd prize £15 – 3rd prize £10. Massive amounts of cheering from the Holywell parents in the stands, and the swimmers poolside helped Molly win the £25 and Katie take the £15, brilliant support and amazing swimming gave them 1st and 2nd places. a fantastic end to the morning session

The Afternoon session started in similar fashion as the first with Jean-Luc taking his 2nd Bronze and 2nd PB in the 50m Breaststroke and later coming 4th in the 50m Fly with another PB.  Molly claimed her 2nd Gold and 2nd PB of the day in the 50m Fly in 30.74 with Anna Leitner(17) coming in 5th with a solid PB time setting herself 3 Pbs for the day. Katie and Shannon raced out a good 50m Fly coming 5th and 6th respectively both achieving long course PBs.  Katie swam a good 50m Free coming 4th narrowly missing out on a medal as there were only 0.7 seconds between the first 4 placings, Molly finished the session in great style gaining her 3rd Gold medal of the day and another PB in the 50m Freestyle.
