Welsh Summer Nationals 2018

Welsh Wummer Nationals 2018
8 Holywell swimmers competed in the Welsh Summer Nationals in Swansea over 7 days from 30th July to the 5th August 2018. This meet was made more difficult for our swimmers due to the high number of English clubs that competed, there were106 English clubs, 34 Welsh clubs, and 1 Scottish club.

Some solid swims from our swimmers during the week and Katie Allen (Left) gave us a good start to the week, Katie has been training very well and took off 3.14 seconds from her 200m Backstroke time. Katie was close to all her PB times through the week which is a credit to all her hard work.

Liv Davies (Right) had 2 good swims in the 100m Backstroke winning Silver and the 100m Breaststroke taking the bronze, under normal circumstances Liv would have been aiming to win both races, however, these swims were important for Liv as she has been coming back from injury, Liv came through both Prelims and finals without any concerns which for the coaching staff is great news.

Nicola Latty (Left) swam in the 200m Fly qualifying 7th for the final, as this was a preparation race for Nicola who will be travelling to Krajak in Slovenia for the LEN European Masters Swimming Championships 2018 which will take place in the Slovenian city of Kranj from 3 – 7 September. Good luck to Nicola from all the team.

Sadie Lee (right) swam in 2 races the 50m and 100m freestyle, solid swims from Sadie gave her  finals in both events, great swim in the prelim of the 100m with PB on her entry time then improving her time in the final with another great swim, narrowly missing out on a medal coming 4th. In the 50m free Sadie swam a super fast time of 28.49 only 0.02 of a second off her PB time.

Two of our younger swimmers performed brilliantly in their number one events, Georgia Wade-Jones and Elinor Rich both set new PB times, Georgia in the 50m with a 0.96 second PB & 100m Backstroke with a 1.49 second PB, Elinor had a great swim in the 50m Freestyle taking 1.66 seconds from her entry time.

Tom Williams stepped up to the plate and impressed in his main event the 100m Backstroke, Tom went through his pre-pool routine and prepared well for his race which paid off, he set a new PB taking off 1.41 seconds then improved it again in the final taking off a further 0.29 of a second. Tom earlier had a great swim in the 400m Freestyle setting a small PB coming 7th in his age group and was 2nd fastest Welsh swimmer in his age group. Tom also was the 1st reserve in the 50m Backstroke.

Last but by no means least Jean-Luc Lovel Pascal, this boy never ceases to amaze, Jean -Luc arrived a few days into the meet following a family holiday and the rest served him well, the 100m breaststroke gave Jean-Luc a 2.12 seconds PB, the 200m IM a small 0.09 PB, he smashed the 400IM with a 10.47 seconds PB, however Jean-Luc saved the best until literally  last, on the last day, in the last event,  Jean-Luc was going in seeded 10th, a great swim gave him a 7th place in the final, in the final Jean-Luc  stepped up another gear creating a very exciting finish to the week, Jean-Luc came 4th overall and  was the 2nd fastest Welsh swimmer. Jean-Luc will be waiting for the post to arrive as his time puts him 3rd in Wales in his age group for the 200m Breaststroke, this should earn Jean-Luc a place on the Welsh skills squads that start in September. Well done Jean-Luc.
