Congratulations to Liv Davies on her selection on to the Welsh skills academy squad.

Liv and i (head coach Terry Boardman)  travelled down to Swansea on the 24th September to meet up with the rest of the Wales squad for the skills camp, for Liv the day consisted of a land based pre-pool  session (1) a stretching routine with the national squads strength and conditioning coach, a pool session (1) based on skills, a team orientation talk from the nationals performance director Ross Nicholas , a talk on nutrition and hydration and sports supplements from the Sport Wales nutritionist, and another pre-pool session then a pool session looking at underwater analysis.  the full Itinerary of Liv’s day can be seen below.

Myself and some of the coaches of  swimmers selected were invited poolside by Ross to help deliver the sessions, during the second pool session a time trial of 6  x 100 N01 kick was done to see where the swimmers are at this present  time,  this will be repeated at a later date to record any improvements.

Overall the day was very beneficial, the workshops gave me the opportunity to mix with coaches and swimmers from other clubs,  we will be able to implement areas of benefit into our home programme.

Liv did excellent on the day, her underwater analysis shown she has very good underwater technique and her time trial was very impressive, as a club we have several swimmers who i feel are very close to making these Welsh squads, Ross Nicholas made a point stating, at this level time management is key, make as many of your sessions as you can,  train with the right intensity,  do not leave the pool knowing you could have done better on your technique or effort, every start, turn and finish should be perfect. this way you give yourself the best opportunity to show how good you can be.

REMEMBER

Practice DOES NOT make perfect, PERFECT practice make perfect.  GET IT RIGHT then repeat ……..
